Review:
The plot of Die Hard is simple - A group of terrorists lay siege to a building in Los Angeles. But the setting is very clever, having the action take place in a skyscraper meant that the movie could have fight scenes take place in different settings on different floors.

Die Hard is an iconic movie largely due to Bruce Willis. His character John McClane has so many memorable one liners and great action set pieces.

Until Die Hard, I had only ever seen Alan Rickman in the Harry Potter franchise and now I see why he was cast as Professor Snape. Rickman's character, Hans Gruber, was an unhinged, impulsive and maniacal villain. And the supporting cast were equally as good. Reginald VelJohnson, as the likable Sgt. Al Powell, didn't get involved in the action until near the end of the movie because of a previous event which made for a great sub plot. And limousine driver Argyle played superbly by De'voreaux White is great comic relief.

I watched Die Hard and The Ladykillers on the same day, and I have to say I found Die Hard funnier than The Ladykillers even though the later is a comedy. McClane's now infamous "Yippee Ki Yay..." line is brilliant.

Die Hard is undisputedly an action and a Christmas classic, but unlike other action classics like The Terminator and The Matrix, Die Hard felt a wee bit dated. Especially, Gruber's final scene and the blood, it was obviously fake blood.

  1. It would be interesting to see what roles would have cone Alan Rickman’s way had he not died, fantastic actor!
