The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

UK Release Date: 26 October 2011 Certification: PG Director: Steven Spielberg Cast: Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig, Nick Frost, Toby Jones, Daniel Mays, Simon Pegg, Andy Serkis Rating:   87% I need Red Rackham's Treasure.  Review:  For context I'm a huge fan when it comes to Belgium comic writer Hergé's most famous creation, the young reporter, Tintin. Maybe it's because I could relate to him as someone who looked just like me but I've absolutely loved him since I was about six or seven. I've read every story in the comic series, I've seen the 90's animated series multiple times, I played the Wii game based on this movie when it came out with my brother and my dad. And most notably I teamed up with my dad to dress up as the inseparable duo of Tintin and Captain Haddock for Halloween one year. So although I can't remember I'm almost certain I went with my dad to see The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn at the cinema.  Again, not know...

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Image
UK Release Date:   30 July 1981 Certification:   PG Director:  Steven Spielberg Cast:  Karen Allen, John Rhys-Davies, Denholm Elliott, Harrison Ford, Paul Freeman, Ronald Lacey, Alfred Molina Rating: 80 % The Return of the Great Adventure.  Review: Steven Spielberg, one of the greatest directors of all time coming off of the back of classics; Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind . Harrison Ford one of the most in demand actors at the time. Put them together you get 'the' action-adventure classic,  Raiders of the Lost Ark . An action-adventure movie needs to have decent action and  Raiders of the Lost Ark does have that. A lot of the practical effects are actually still very impressive. The opening scene is of course iconic and is perhaps the highlight of the movie. Another action set-piece that has become extremely well-known over the years is the chase scene in the market in Cairo which is a particularly funny moment in the movie.  ...

Minority Report

Image
UK Release Date: 4 July 2002 Certification: 12 Director: Steven Spielberg Cast: Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell, Steve Harris, Daniel London, Neal McDonough, Kathryn Morris, Samantha Morton, Max Von Sydow  Rating: 8 1% The future can be seen. Murder can be prevented. Review:  The acclaimed director Steven Spielberg has to be one of my favourites. He has directed more than 30 movies and Minority Report would feature in my top ten Spielberg movies. With brilliant cinematography throughout, Spielberg even manages to include a couple of gruesome scenes in Minority Report , like in some of his classics: Jaws , Jurassic Park and Saving Private Ryan . The two main cast members in Minority Report both give great performances. I thoroughly enjoyed Tom Cruise, who is known for his action roles, but is dramatic, emotive and distinct in the role of John Anderton. Colin Farrell, who I know from such movies as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Dumbo , played Danny W...

Catch Me If You Can

Image
UK Release Date: 31 January 2003 Certification: 12A Director: Steven Spielberg  Cast: Amy Adams, Nathalie Baye, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Martin Sheen, Christopher Walken Rating: 77% " Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream... " Review: I was unaware of the true events that inspired Ca tch Me If You Can , I thought it was a just another crime movie. I was pleasantly surprised w atching the story of Frank Abagnale Jr unfold. It was really interesting and I enjoyed the Dr. Connors plotline the most, particularly the "Do you concur?" scene.  As you may already be aware T om Hanks is my favourite actor. I found his portrayal of Carl Hanratty lacklustre and I didn't enjoy his performance on this occasion. On the other hand Leonardo Caprio in the lead role of Frank Abagnale Jr i s phenomenal and outshone Tom Hanks. In addition, Christopher Walken and Amy Adams are great in supporting roles. Christopher Walken received an Oscar nomination for Best S...

Jaws

UK Release Date: 26 December 1975 Certification: 12A Director: Steven Spielberg Cast: Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gray, Murray Hamilton, Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw Rating: 93% "You're gonna need a bigger boat" Review: Jaws is an absolute classic. It was the first movie to gross one hundred million dollars worldwide and started the trend of the summer blockbuster (US Release Date: 20 June 1975). Jaws is my third favourite movie of all time. The soundtrack of Jaws , created by legendary composer John Williams, is one of the most iconic and recognisable pieces of music of all time. The use of the music is integral in building tension and suspense. Whenever you hear the main theme you fear that someone is in danger.   The story of the movie is incredibly simple. A shark terrorises the beaches of a small, tourist-dependant fictional island, Amity Island. The mayor of Amity Island puts together a team - a local police chief, a marine biologist and an old seafa...
