UK Release Date: 26 January 2017 Certification: 15 Director: Mel Gibson  Cast: Luke Bracey, Andrew Garfield, Rachel Griffiths, Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn, Hugo Weaving, Sam Worthington Rating: 90% 'One of the greatest American heroes never fired a bullet' Review: Hacksaw Ridge , directed by Mel Gibson, is based on a true story depicting the life of Desmond Doss (Andrew Garfield), a man who refuses to touch a gun despite volunteering to fight in the war. The movie was a huge success upon release earning $180 million worldwide and receiving six Oscar nominations including best picture.  The biggest takeaway from Hacksaw Ridge is that it cements Andrew Garfield as an extraordinary actor amongst some of the very best of this decade. I've loved absolutely everything he's been in. He's sensational and without doubt in my top five favourite actors of all time. The accent worked, his morals made sense and his performance was commanding and powerful. He s...

Man on a Ledge

UK Release Date:   3 February 2012 Certification:   12A Director:  Asger Leth Cast:  Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Edward Burns, Patrick Collins, Ed Harris, Anthony Mackie, Genesis Rodriguez, Titus Welliver, Sam Worthington Rating: 38% You can only push an innocent man so far. Review: I felt the acting was quite a bit iffy in Man on a Ledge . Sam Worthington, most notably known for his role in Avatar , isn't particularly convincing in his role and in my opinion was very poor as he isn't even able to maintain an American accent. Elizabeth Banks is relegated to quite frankly a character that purely dumps exposition which is more a poor use of her talent rather than bad acting. Mike Ackerman, played by Anthony Mackie, in my opinion is more of a glorified cameo than anything else and there wasn't much depth to his character arc - if he even had one at all. On the other hand, Jamie Bell and Genesis Rodriguez were quite good in my opinion. The charisma between their charact...

UK Release Date: 17 December 2009 Certification: 12A Director: James Cameron Cast: Stephan Lang, Joel David Moore, Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington Rating: 85% I speak for the trees. Review: Avatar , for me, is the best sci-fi movie that I have seen since I first watched the original Star Wars trilogy.  The lead performances from Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana are excellent in Avatar . Sam Worthington plays a disabled ex-marine, Jake Sully, who takes the place of his brother on an exhibition to Pandora after his brother is shot and killed. Jake's role on the exhibition is to pilot a human-Na'vi hybrid, an avatar. Usually the Na'vi kill avatars but Neytiri (Zoe Saldana's character) is shown a sign from their deity, Eywa when she first encounters Jake's avatar. T he leader of the Na'vi decides that Jake should be trained in the ways of the Na'vi. Jake learns the ways of the Na'vi and is embraced as one of...
