UK Release Date:  01 January 2015 Certification:  15 Director:  Alejandro González Iñárritu Cast:  Lindsay Duncan, Zach Galifianakis, Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts Rating:   47% Review: Winner of three Oscars, including best picture and best director at the 87th Academy Awards, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) is essential viewing for any modern cinephile.  A fading actor (Riggan Thomson) struggles to be taken seriously following his retirement as superhero, Birdman, attempting to mount a comeback with a Broadway play before succumbing to his alter ago towards the end. The film acts as a metaphorical representation of Michael Keaton's career after he portrayed the caped crusader in 1989's Batman and returned this year in The Flash .  First of all, the camera work is exquisite. Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography is extraordinary. He is given numerous instances to simply show off his e...

UK Release Date: 11 August 1989 Certification: 12 Director: Tim Burton Cast: Kim Basinger, Michael Gough, Pat Hingle, Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Billy Dee Williams, Robert Wuhl Rating: 57 % "Wait 'til they get a load of me." Review: Like many comic book movies from the 1980's and 1990's Batman doesn't stand the test of time . Tim Burton directs, but in my opinion didn't take the project seriously. Batman is so over the top, but incredibly slow paced at the same time. I know that Tim Burton's Batman is loved by many fans, but as a teenager watching the movie for the first time, it felt dated and devoid of action. I generally love comic book movies but Batman is the exception to date. Michael Keaton is ok as the lead. His performance feels off compared to  Christian Bale's or Ben Affleck's interpretation of the same character [although Keaton donned the mask before Bale and Affleck]. Keaton is oblivious to what is happenin...

UK Release Date: 5 July 2017 Certification: 12A Director: Jon Watts Cast: Jacob Batalon, Donald Glover, Jon Favreau, Laura Harrier, Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr, Michael Keaton, Tony Revolori, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya Rating: 76 % Just You're Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man. Review: Spider-Man Homecoming is the first MCU solo Spider-Man movie and you can tell it is an MCU production, which is no bad thing. It has more jokes, more action and of course cameos from other MCU characters. Tom Holland and the rest of the cast are amazing in Spider-Man: Homecoming . For me, Tom Holland is the best actor to play Spider-Man. He is perfect for the part - suitably cocky as Spider-Man and equally insecure as Peter Parker. It is incredible that he is this good at such a young age [when Spider-Man: Homecoming came out Tom Holland was only 21 years old, making him the youngest actor to play Spider-Man].  Michael Keaton creates one of the best villains in the MCU with his portrayal...

UK Release Date: 29 March 2019 Certification: PG Director: Tim Burton Cast: Alan Arkin, Danny DeVito, Colin Farrell, Joseph Gatt, Eva Green, Finley Hobbins, Michael Keaton, Nico Parker Rating:  55% "When I See An Elephant Fly" Review: Dumbo is a delightful reimagining of the original all-time classic Disney movie released in 1941. Read my review of the original here . Dumbo was incredibly faithful to the original storyline and spirit. Characters like Casey Jr, Timothy Q. Mouse and Mr Stork make cameo appearances. The brilliant Danny Elfman creates amazing reworkings of the original songs such as 'Train's a Comin' and 'Baby Mine'. The screenwriters even manage to fit in the lyrics of 'When I See An Elephant Fly' to announce Dumbo's debut at Dreamland. Tim Burton, who is one of my favourite directors, did an absolutely amazing job in creating a new storyline for Dumbo , with not much to base his story on, as the original Dumbo ...
