Review:
Spider-Man Homecoming is the first MCU solo Spider-Man movie and you can tell it is an MCU production, which is no bad thing. It has more jokes, more action and of course cameos from other MCU characters.
Tom Holland and the rest of the cast are amazing in Spider-Man: Homecoming. For me, Tom Holland is the best actor to play Spider-Man. He is perfect for the part - suitably cocky as Spider-Man and equally insecure as Peter Parker. It is incredible that he is this good at such a young age [when Spider-Man: Homecoming came out Tom Holland was only 21 years old, making him the youngest actor to play Spider-Man].
Michael Keaton creates one of the best villains in the MCU with his portrayal of The Vulture. Most MCU villains either have the same powers as the hero but are evil or want to destroy the entire city/planet/universe [delete as appropriate]. It was unusual to have a villain with more interesting motives. Adrian Toomes (The Vulture) was ominous and the scene in the car with Peter en route to the Homecoming Dance is extremely tense. The supporting cast that play Peter's classmates are also well suited for their roles. Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds) has great chemistry with Tom Holland, their friendship is believable and Ned is a brilliant 'guy in the chair'. Zendaya was really funny as MJ and I can't wait to see the development of her character in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Tony Revolori was excellent as Flash Thompson - a compelling character who didn't know whether to show his intellect or revert to class bully. The only cast member I didn't really like was Laura Harrier in the role of Liz, as she was a bit too much of a damsel in distress throughout the movie.
Some of the action sequences in this movie are not brilliant. In fact, the ferry scene, whilst the premise is cool, is executed terribly. It looks so fake and the CGI is awful. But the third act climax is even worse. The plane is distracting. Why could the plane not remain invisible or visible? Not both.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is a thoroughly enjoyable movie and I would definitely recommend it. I am so excited to see Spider-Man: Far From Home.

When I re-watched Spider-Man: Homecoming, I was surprised by Michael Giacchino's score. In particular The Vulture theme used in A Boatload of Trouble Part 2 is immensely powerful and Spider-Man: Homecoming Suite is beautiful.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is the most high school orientated adaptation, and I really liked this because this is the youngest cast of any Spider-Man movie. It also meant that Spider-Man: Homecoming was the most light hearted and authentic Spider-Man movie so far. Jacob Batalon, Tom Holland and Zendaya brilliantly interplay and all have great comedic timing.
That doesn't mean Spider-Man: Homecoming doesn't have it's emotional moments. For me, the best scene in the entire movie is when Peter is trapped under rubble and he realises that his strength is not because he is Spider-Man, but because he is Peter Parker. I thought this was a truly emotional moment.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is a thoroughly enjoyable movie and I would definitely recommend it. I am so excited to see Spider-Man: Far From Home.
