UK Release Date:  05 July 1996 Certification:  PG Director:  Brian De Palma Cast:  Emmanuelle Béart, Tom Cruise, Henry Czerny, Vanessa Redgrave, Jean Reno, Ving Rhames, Kristen Scott Thomas, Jon Voight Rating:   68% Review: Quintessential 90s cinema. A film that kickstarted a continuous action franchise that has since grown in ambition, stature and quality. Based on a TV series of the same name that first aired in 1966, Mission: Impossible released 30 years later to, at the time, record breaking commercial success.  Tom Cruise is Ethan Hunt. There is near to no separation from actor and character. Although the stunts get more extravagant and death-defying as the franchise progresses, his dedication at this early stage is unreal during his first real delve into the action genre. Deciding to hang on top of a moving train for the benefit of the film.  Even from the first entry, Cruise was involved in the making of Mission: Impossible as a...

UK Release Date: 14 March 2018 Certification: 12A Director: Roar Uthaug Cast: Walton Goggins, Kristen Scott Thomas, Alicia Vikander, Dominic West, Daniel Wu Rating: 30% Yet another awful video game adaptation Review: When I was younger I used to play Tomb Raider on my dad's playstation, so although I haven't seen the movie starring Angelina Jolie, I would consider myself a Tomb Raider fan. But this movie is the definition of lacklustre.  I got ten seconds into the movie and I already wanted it to end. The whole point of Tomb Raider is that it's a simple action-adventure story similar to Raiders of the Lost Ark and immediately the movie decided to tell a story which deals with an ancient witch who can kill by touch alone. That feels so far-fetched to me and in my opinion that isn't Tomb Raider .  Alicia Vikander put in a lot of work to prepare for the role of Lara Croft. She went through moths of physical training in order to complete most of the stunt work by he...

UK Release Date: 12 January 2018 Certification: PG Director: Joe Wright Cast: Stephen Dillane, Lily James, Ben Mendelsohn, Gary Oldman, Ronald Pickup, Kristen Scott Thomas Rating: 73% V for Victory. Review: Darkest Hour depicts the first couple of months of Sir Winston Churchill's time as the Prime Minister. The movie was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture [ Darkest Hour won Best Actor and Best Makeup and Hairstyling]. Gary Oldman is absolutely incredible in Darkest Hour and thoroughly deserved his Oscar for his portrayal of a moody and unpredictable Churchill. But he is not alone - the supporting cast are on top form as well. Lily James plays Elizabeth Layton, Churchill's secretary. I thought she was one of the best characters in the movie and provided elements of humour in a very serious movie. Ben Mendelsohn is excellent, as usual, in his portrayal King George VI, always with a witty comeback to Sir Winston Churchill. Kristen Scott Tho...
