A character based psychological thriller that takes a while to really get going but once it does never slows down. The tension created by Jane Campion is excellent and it keeps you guessing throughout the movie as to what is really happening and who is in control.  The Power of the Dog is full of Oscar worthy performances. Benedict Cumberbatch plays a sadistic cattle rancher, Phil Burbank, who bottles up his feelings in a character study about masculinity. In all honesty, Cumberbatch is a class above the rest, it's easily his best performance to date and I believe, alongside Andrew Garfield, he's the frontrunner for best actor. In what was yet another crazy and uncertain year, 2021 was still able to provide us with some excellent movies across all mediums. There's been a few that I've possibly missed over the course of the year but in my opinion these are the ten best movies of 2021: 10. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 09. Ghostbusters: Afterlife 08. The Power of the Dog 07. No Time to Die 06. The Suicide Squad 05. Tick, tick...BOOM! 04. Spider-Man: No Way Home 03. A Quiet Place Part II 02. Zack Snyder's Justice League 01. Dune The Best Movie of 2021 Dune was so good that I needed more of it's world and I got the book for Christmas. The movie stuck with me for weeks with it's excellent cast, stunning visuals and swelling score. Denis Villeneuve has quickly became one of the best directors currently working and I absolutely can't wait for the sequel in 2023.
