Unbreakable

Image
UK Release Date: 29 December 2000   Certification: 12 Director: M. Night Shyamalan Cast: Spencer Treat Clark, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Robin Wright Rating: 70% " I'm just an ordinary man."  Review: Unbreakable is another example of an entertaining comic book movie released before the recent Marvel and DC Hollywood blockbusters. M. Night Shyamalan does a great job delivering an interesting character study of two men who don't know their place in the world.    D avid Dunn (played by Bruce Willis), to me, is an appealing superhero struggling to come to terms with his own identity . The sole survivor of a massive train crash, David is confronted by a man named Elijah Price (played by the ever dependable Samuel L. Jackson) who thinks that both men are superheroes. David is initially in denial but starts to question this as the story unfolds. And Elijah Price is a perfect foil for David Dunn. Elijah was born with broken bones and

UK Release Date: 16 May 2018 Certification: 15 Director: David Leitch Cast: Morena Baccarin, Zazie Beetz, Josh Brolin, Julian Dennison, Stefan Kapicic, Shioli Kutsuna, Brianna Hildebrand, T.J Miller, Ryan Reynolds Rating : 78 % You're so dark. Are you sure you're not from the DC universe? Review: Deadpool 2 is by far the most entertaining movie of the X-Men universe. Deadpool does everything he does in the first movie but oh so much better. He is funnier, more violent and is more of a relatable character because of the plotline.   The introduction of new characters such as Cable, Domino and Yukio made the dynamics between the characters even better than the first one.  Cable makes for a great villain and anti-hero. And because Cable is played by Josh Brolin, Deadpool blatantly mocks his Thanos appearance, "Zip it, Thanos". Domino has great charisma and is a very interesting character with a significant amount of screen time. Deadpool 2 received gre

UK Release Date: 10th February 2016 Certification: 15 Director: Tim Miller Cast: Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapicic,   T.J Miller ,  Ryan Reynolds, Ed Skrein  Rating:  88% Deadpool cosplay costume from Tracon 2018, Tampere, Finland. Review:   Tim Miller's 2016 Deadpool changed the comic book movie genre forever. Deadpool is no outright goody two-shoes superhero - he's no Captain America. He's sexy, sassy and sarcastic.  The movie embraces the fact that the original comic book Deadpool is an insanely violent character but is humorous at the same time. From his fourth wall breaks and his comic pop culture asides to his extremely messy way of getting things done, Deadpool makes for an unlikely likeable character.  Ryan Reynolds had been trying to play a proper Deadpool ever since the studio messed up Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and he is perfect in the role. He plays the funny side of Deadpool brilliantly, the violent side brillian

Isle of Dogs

UK Release Date: 30 March 2018 Certification: PG Director: Wes Anderson Cast: Bob Balaban, Bryan Cranston, Greta Gerwig, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, Harvey Keitel, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Koyu Rankin, Liev Schreiber, Tilda Swinton Rating: 65% Toby Dogge enjoyed Isle of Dogs too. Review: For an animated movie Isle of Dogs boasts an incredible cast, with acting legends like Jeff Goldblum and Bill Murray, to up and coming stars like Koyu Rankin and Greta Gerwig.  In Isle of Dogs , Wes Anderson relies upon a stop-motion animation technique that he first used in Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) to create a story that is both sombre and heart-warming at the same time. The movie is about a Japanese boy called Atari, who’s parents pass away in an accident. He goes to live with his uncle who is the mayor of the fictional city, Megasaki. The mayor banishes all dogs to Trash Island and the remainder of the movie tells of Atari's daring rescue mission to save his dog,

Ranking All The DC Extended Universe Movies

Image
After the recent release of Aquaman, I have decided to rank the DCEU (DC Extended Universe) movies. Six movies have been released to date but many more are in the works.  6. Suicide Squad 5. Justice League 4. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice 3. Man Of Steel 2. Aquaman  1. Wonder Woman  Good to see you playing with others again. Wonder Woman is my favourite movie in the DCEU because it has the strongest plot and best action scenes, but Aquaman is the more entertaining movie so I would be more likely to re-watch Aquaman .

UK Release Date: 14 December 2018 Certification: 12A Director: James Wan Cast: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Nicole Kidman, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Rating:  50 % They made me what I am: a son of the land, a king of the seas.   Review:  In Aquaman , director James Wan has successfully created a world unlike any other. The visual spectacle of the underwater city, with the multitude of colours took my breathe away from the first moment I saw Atlantis. The enormous scale of Atlantis is impressive but the director skilfully uses CGI to illustrate the fine detail; for example, the cargo-bearing turtles and whales and the design of the Atlantean's ships, which all look like marine animals. I was a little sceptical ahead of Aquaman as James Wan made his name directing horror movies such as Annabelle , Saw and The Conjuring . I was worried that Aquaman would be too dark, but this is by far the funniest movie in the DC Extended Universe. Aquaman

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Image
UK Release Date: 12 December 2018  Certification: PG  Director: Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman  Cast: Nicolas Cage, Kimiko Glenn, Jake Johnson, Zoe Kravitz, Shameik Moore, John Mulaney, Chris Pine, Liev Schreiber, Hailee Steinfeld  Rating:   94 % I'm also a huge fan of Spider-Man on the PS4. Review: One of the greatest strengths of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse is the animation. The style means the movie is the closest thing to a comic book. All the Spider people have different animation styles - Spider-Ham looks like something from Looney Tunes, Peni Parker looks like Anime, Spider-Noir is black and white and Miles looks like he was lifted straight out of a Marvel comic. The only thing I didn't like about the animation was the way  Kingpin was portrayed - he was very wide. I don't mind the animators sticking to his comic book appearance, but really, he didn't have to be that huge! There have been a lot of interp
