Ocean's Eight

UK Release Date: 18 June 2018 Certification: 12A Director: Gary Ross Cast: Richard Armitage, Awkwafina, Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, James Corden, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Poulsen, Rihanna Rating:   48 % Not the best, but definitely not the worst Review: Ocean's Eight is the fourth movie in the Ocean's franchise. It might not be the best one, but it definitely isn't the worst. Like Paul Feig's Ghostbusters (2016) Ocean's Eight is a gender switch movie with Sandra Bullock as the main character (Debbie Ocean).  By and large the performances in Ocean's Eight are fine. But in my opinion, Awkwafina, James Corden and Rihanna deliver standout performances. Awkwafina plays Constance, a pocket thief (similar to Matt Damon's character in Ocean's Eleven ) who is tasked with stealing the necklace from Anne Hathaway's character (Daphne Kluger). The street smart Awkwafina brought a youthful cockiness to the ro

Solo: A Star Wars Story

UK Release Date: 24 May 2018 Certification: 12A Director: Ron Howard Cast: Paul Bettany, Emilia Clarke, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davis, Alden Ehrenreich, Jon Favreau, Donald Glover, Woody Harrleson, Joonas Suotamo Rating:   64 % "I've got a bad feeling about this." Review: Solo: A Star Wars Story is different from every other movie in the Star Wars franchise. Set before Star Wars: A New Hope , Solo: A Star Wars Story is an origin story detailing how Han Solo becomes involved in the criminal underworld of the galaxy. The character Han Solo was recently named the Greatest Sci-fi Character of all time by Total Film magazine. Synonymous with Harrison Ford and his legendary performance in the original trilogy, I thought that Alden Ehrenreich did a good job of portraying Han Solo. Alden Ehrenreich is what you would imagine a young Han Solo to look like and importantly act like. He brings charisma, sarcasm and a believable partnership with Chewbacca to the ro

Captain Marvel

UK Release Date: 8 March 2019 Certification: 12A Director: Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck Cast: Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, Samuel L Jackson,  Brie Larson, Jude Law, Lashana Lynch, Ben Mendelsohn  Rating: 72 % Higher, Further, Faster. Review: Following the disappointing Ant-Man and the Wasp [although I did like the original Ant-Man more than most people] Captain Marvel is a great return to form for the MCU. Marvel fans have had to wait eight months for the release of Captain Marvel .  Unlike other MCU movies Captain Marvel hasn't been getting too much hype. Whether it's because Avengers: Endgame comes out in six weeks (25 April 2019)? Or whether it's because Captain Marvel 's lead character is a female superhero? Or whether it's because of Brie Larson's views about diversity in Hollywood . I think that's stupid and people should judge the movie as a great Marvel superhero movie because that's what it is. Captain Marvel is an origin story that

Alita: Battle Angel

UK Release Date: 6 February 2019 Certification: 12A Director: Robert Rodriguez Cast: Mahershala Ali, Jennifer Connelly, Jackie Earle Haley, Keean Johnson, Rosa Salazar, Ed Skrein, Christoph Waltz Rating: 69 % Alita: Battle Angel poster at Showcase Cinemas. Review: Robert Rodriguez's Alita: Battle Angel is based on a Manga series 'Battle Angel Alita' from 1990 to 1995 created by Yukito Kishiro. What brings Alita: Battle Angel to life is Alita herself and the brilliant performance from Rosa Salazar. She brings youth, innocence and above all humanity to the role of Alita. And yes, the eyes can be quite off-putting at first but after 10 minutes you get used to them. The action in Alita: Battle Angel is absolutely amazing. Fight sequences are frequent and brief, but not too brief and in my opinion not scenes that would warrant  a 15 certification. From kicking bottles at people to punching someone's head off, Alita has an unpredictable personality and ru
