Review:
Ocean's Eight is the fourth movie in the Ocean's franchise. It might not be the best one, but it definitely isn't the worst. Like Paul Feig's Ghostbusters (2016) Ocean's Eight is a gender switch movie with Sandra Bullock as the main character (Debbie Ocean).
By and large the performances in Ocean's Eight are fine. But in my opinion, Awkwafina, James Corden and Rihanna deliver standout performances. Awkwafina plays Constance, a pocket thief (similar to Matt Damon's character in Ocean's Eleven) who is tasked with stealing the necklace from Anne Hathaway's character (Daphne Kluger). The street smart Awkwafina brought a youthful cockiness to the role. James Corden plays John Frazier, a matter of fact insurance fraud investigator trying to find the stolen necklace. Not surprisingly James Corden brought a touch of humour to the movie. But my favourite character in this movie was the smart and sassy Nine Ball played by Rihanna. Rihanna was hilarious as the computer hacker (again similar to a character in Ocean's Eleven, Don Cheadle's character).
The best part of this movie is undoubtedly the heist scene. There's great thrills, great humour and great mystery as the crime unfolds. I also loved the dynamics between the characters and couldn't help smiling when watching them argue with each other.
My biggest problem with Ocean's Eight is that in the end it was far too easy for the lead characters to get away with the crime. What I mean by that, is that no one suspected the lead characters at any point (apart from John Frazier). In truth, the plot was weak and didn't hold my attention throughout - I was left bored at various points in the movie.
Overall Ocean's Eight is an ok heist movie, but didn't have a good enough plot too drive the movie and was nowhere near as good as Ocean's Eleven.

Can you tell me a bit more about how you rate the films? Do you give them so many points for plot, acting etc. and then add them together or do you just pick a number? Interested to know!
ReplyDeleteIt depends. I will decide how good a movie is by all the things you said but it is mainly just how much I enjoy the movie. If I enjoy the movie it will be a high score if I don't enjoy it will be a low score.
DeleteBut how do you get to 63?
DeleteWell parts of it were good like the cast and the heist but I just wasn't too interested in the movie so it didn't get such a good score.
