The Truman Show

Image
UK Release Date: 9 October 1998 Certification: PG Director: Peter Weir Cast: Terry Camilleri, Jim Carrey, Brian Delate, Noah Emmerich, Paul Giamatti, Ed Harris, Laura Linney, Natasha McElhone, Holland Taylor Rating: 76% The World is Watching. Review: Jim Carrey made his name for his larger than life comedic roles, but in The Truman Show , where he plays Truman Burbank, we see a more subtle performance. His comedic timing remains incredible but he also shows a great deal of emotion and this works just as well. Jim Carrey's performance is the best performance in the movie... apart from Terry Camilleri's.  I don't care that I don't know who he is. I don't care that his character didn't even have a name. Terry Camilleri as Man in Bathtub is one of the best comedic performances I have ever seen . The manner in which he reacts to Truman's predicaments is hilarious. The concept of The Truman Show is excellent and novel for it's time. Release

Transformers

UK Release Date: 27 July 2007 Certification: 12A Director: Michael Bay Cast: Peter Cullen, Josh Duhamel, Kevin Dunn, Megan Fox, Shia LaBeouf, Mark Ryan, John Turturro, Hugo Weaving, Julie White Rating: 50 % I enjoy the Transformers ride at Universal Studios more than the movie. Review: I have to be honest I don't really enjoy the Transformers movies. Although I will credit the screenwriters who were able to create an entire franchise out of a range of Hasbro action toys and a 1980's animated TV show.  I do enjoy Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky. His character is a socially awkward teenager - I can relate to that - and most of his humour is based on sarcasm, which also appeals to me. But I dislike the overdramatic screams of Bumblebee whenever Sam is in peril. It is not in keeping with a movie deprived of any drama.  Megan Fox doesn't work for me. Another pretty face that in my opinion is pretty weak when it comes to acting. The voice cast is ok. Peter Cullen an

Minority Report

UK Release Date: 4 July 2002 Certification: 12 Director: Steven Spielberg Cast: Tom Cruise, Colin Farrell, Steve Harris, Daniel London, Neal McDonough, Kathryn Morris, Samantha Morton, Max Von Sydow  Rating: 8 1% The future can be seen. Murder can be prevented. Review:  The acclaimed director Steven Spielberg has to be one of my favourites. He has directed more than 30 movies and Minority Report would feature in my top ten Spielberg movies. With brilliant cinematography throughout, Spielberg even manages to include a couple of gruesome scenes in Minority Report , like in some of his classics: Jaws , Jurassic Park and Saving Private Ryan . The two main cast members in Minority Report both give great performances. I thoroughly enjoyed Tom Cruise, who is known for his action roles, but is dramatic, emotive and distinct in the role of John Anderton. Colin Farrell, who I know from such movies as Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Dumbo , played Danny Witwer. Da

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

Image
UK Release Date: 16 August 1991 Certification: 15 Director: James Cameron Cast: Earl Boen, Edward Furlong, Linda Hamilton, Joe Morton, Robert Patrick, Arnold Schwarzenegger Rating: 88% "Hasta la vista, baby." Review: This review contains spoilers for James Cameron's The Terminator (see my review here ) and Terminator 2: Judgement Day . Returning actors Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and  Earl Boen are excellent and new cast members Edward Furlong, Joe Morton and Robert Patrick all bring something extra to the movie as John Connor, Miles Dyson and T-1000 respectively. Terminator 2: Judgement Day has an incredible twist near the start of the movie, which helped make the first act a lot more interesting. [Spoiler] I really enjoyed watching the relationship between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Edward Furlong develop. John Connor (Furlong) befriends the Terminator and the two bond, which is why the Terminator's self-sacrifice at the end of the m

Details about Film Stories Junior can be found at www.filmstories.co.uk I would like to thank the editor, Simon Brew for this amazing opportunity and marvellous experience. Below is the article I wrote and was published in issue one of Film Stories Junior. Scamander vs Potter Will Fantastic Beasts ever measure up to Harry Potter? I grew up with Harry Potter. I devoured JK Rowling’s novels, was mesmerised by the films and was spellbound on my first visit to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios. But in truth, I was never part of the Hogwarts generation. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was published in June 1997 and the film released in
