My least favourite movie in the MCU.

Review:
Thor: The Dark World is for me the most disappointing outing in the MCU. The sequel to an entertaining origin story was the first movie that I remember not liking at the cinema and it's my least favourite movie in the MCU.

The biggest downfall of Thor: The Dark World is its villain, Malekeith. Played by Christopher Eccleston, Malekeith is boring, forgettable and totally two-dimensional. I've seen the movie a few times now and before every rewatch I don't remember his name - he almost makes me fall asleep.

Chris Hemsworth once again shows his comedic potential as Thor but still isn't quite there yet. The standout however, is Tom Hiddleston as Loki. He's just incredible in the role and is the main reason I still somewhat appreciate this movie. His sarcastic dialogue is superb and in my opinion he should be in the movie longer. Natalie Portman is used with a more comedic effect but it didn't really work for me. Although I did really like that they gave Heimdall a more prominent role as I enjoy Idris Elba in all of his roles especially as Charles Minor on The Office (US).

[Spoiler] Frigga's death scene is by far the highlight of Thor: The Dark World. The action scene before it is entertaining and the death feels meaningful. To top it off the cinematography is excellent and is complemented well by Brian Taylor's beautiful score.

On top of the villain there are many small issues that I have with the movie. Like the first venture Thor: The Dark World felt rushed, Malekeith was defeated an hour and a half in leaving the last 20 minutes to just stagnate. Thor doesn't feel nearly as powerful as he should and really the humans end up winning the fight for him. The movie also tries to be way too many things - a buddy cop movie, a dramatic tragedy between brothers, fish out of water comedy but in all honesty none of them work.

Thor: The Dark World is by far the weakest movie in both Thor's trilogy and the MCU. It's just dull and almost sludges through the story. It's the only feature in the MCU that I wouldn't recommend and is one I will struggle to rewatch again.

    1. They aren't great movies but they both have some sort of spark unlike this. Plus Paul Rudd and RDJ can't not enjoy it
