Review
In 1977, a low budget science fiction movie made by a then relatively unknown director, George Lucas was released. 42 years later The Skywalker Saga comes to an end. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is a great movie. I cannot review Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker without spoiling aspects of the movie, so be warned there are spoilers ahead.

My favourite element of the movie, was the returning cast members. Harrison Ford, Sir Alec Guinness, Mark Hamill, Samuel L. Jackson, James Earl Jones, Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, Frank Oz and Andy Serkus amongst many others all returned for small roles. These appearances and in some instances one line cameos helped bring The Skywalker Saga to a satisfactory conclusion.

But equally the main cast members - Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and Daisy Ridley - were excellent, as they brought something different to the movie. Director, J.J. Abrams skilfully used previously unseen footage of Leia Organa (played by the late Carrie Fisher) instead of trying to use CGI to put the character on screen. I liked Abrams' approach more than Gareth Edwards' attempt to recreate Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Like my favourite movie of the year Avengers: Endgame some of the moments in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker gave me goosebumps, especially when Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca entered the final battle with all of the rebels reinforcements. That was one of the greatest moments in Star Wars movie history.

Every single scene was beautifully shot - credit to the cinematographers for that - and this was enhanced by the fact that I saw this movie in an IMAX cinema. The action set pieces were incredible with the lightsaber duel on the Death Star wreckage being my favourite.

One of the slight issues I had with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was that some scenes came off as being a little cheesy or cringeworthy.

With an 75% rating, where does Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker sit in my ranking of the Star Wars movies
