Oblivion is probably the most confusing movie I have watched to date. If someone asked me too describe the plot I could probably only describe the first 30 minutes of the movie pretty well. My attention was stretched whilst watching Oblivion as I was just trying to figure out what was going on. I wasn't alone - my mum nicknamed this movie 'Confusion.' I eventually did realise what was happening, but not until after the movie ended. This isn't a criticism of Oblivion because if a movie gets you thinking it means you must have been slightly interested in it.
To some degree, the performances of Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman save Oblivion. Both are interesting in their roles but I would rather watch a Mission Impossible movie or one of the Dark Knight movies, if I wanted to watch one of these actors. Tom Cruise is brilliant as always, but for me, there isn’t enough of his world famous self-performed stunts. And despite Morgan Freeman’s dialogue being solely exposition and foreshadowing, I still somehow liked his performance.
Although Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman were enjoyable in Oblivion, the same cannot be said for the female actors. I thought Melissa Leo and Andrea Risborough were in a different movie. Their acting was so off and not at all suited for Oblivion. Melissa Leo had such an annoying voice, which I suspect is how it is was supposed to sound, but it prevented me from enjoying the movie. Andrea Risborough had absolutely no chemistry with Tom Cruise at all.
[Spoiler] There were multiple plot twists in Oblivion and I could see most of them coming a mile off. The only one that I didn't see coming was the final climatic twist.
This movie was far too confusing, spoiled by bad acting and obvious plot twists. I would not recommend Oblivion.
